The symposia will examine the variety of contexts in which art practitioners, researchers, creative entrepreneurs, artist managers, funders and policy makers operate. CARIFESTA XIV 2019 will host the Symposia with the theme “Journey Round Myself: Crossing Borders, Strengthening Connections, Breaking Boundaries” which is taken from the title of an article “Journey Round Myself” written by Errol Hill in 1999.
Keynote Address: Professor Kei Miller ‘Re-Imagining Caribbean Futures’
Professor Kei Miller will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony for the CARIFESTA XIV Symposia ‘Journey Round Myself’ at The UWI Teaching and Learning Complex, on Monday 19th August from 6 to 8 p.m. Professor Miller is a gifted Jamaican poet, essayist and novelist whose work has won many esteemed awards including the Forward Prize for Poetry for ‘The Cartographer Tries To Map a Way To Zion’ (2014). He was also awarded The Bocas Literary Prize for his novel ‘Augustown’ (2017), whose French translation won the Prix Carbet de la Caraïbe et du Tout-Monde. Professor Miller has also received ‘The Anthony N Sabga Caribbean Awards for Excellence’ (ANSCAFE) in the Arts & Letters category in 2018.
