The symposia will examine the variety of contexts in which art practitioners, researchers, creative entrepreneurs, artist managers, funders and policy makers operate. CARIFESTA XIV 2019 will host the Symposia with the theme “Journey Round Myself: Crossing Borders, Strengthening Connections, Breaking Boundaries” which is taken from the title of an article “Journey Round Myself” written by Errol Hill in 1999.
The Arts & Change in the Post-Colonial Imaginary
“Language as culture is the collective memory bank of a people’s experience in history”– Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o.
The esteemed Kenyan author, activist, and professor renowned for his articulation of African and Post-colonial narratives will engage with the UWI’s own Professor Emerita Barbara Lalla. Together they explore arts and change in the post-colonial imaginary.
